網友響應募款 9歲童遺愛人間

家住美國西雅圖的小女孩瑞秋.貝克威斯（Rachel Beckwith），今年六月十二日過九歲生日，她在生日前許願，希望能夠募得三百美元，幫助開發中國家兒童能享有乾淨的飲水，也把這項善行當成自己的生日禮物。

瑞秋在與媽媽一起架設的募款網站上寫道：「我發現世界上有許多小朋友活不過五歲生日，為什麼呢？因為他們沒有乾淨、安全的水可以喝，所以我決定用一種從沒試過的方法來慶祝生日。」

到了六月十二日那天，瑞秋僅募得兩百廿美元，她失望地關閉網站。一個多月後的七月廿日，瑞秋在華盛頓州九十號州際公路的一起連環車禍中過世。之後奇蹟出現，許多人開始出錢出力，為小女孩完成心願，送上一份遲來的生日禮物。

原來瑞秋家鄉教會的牧師在瑞秋意外過世之後，決定重新開啟她的網站（http://mycharitywater.org/p/campaign?campaign_id=16396），並在教會網站上頗為宣傳，網友看到後也熱忱響應。截至七月廿八日，已有近十五萬人捐款，金額超過五十二萬美元，約可幫助兩萬六千位小朋友。

捐贈五十美元的奇亞塔司說，瑞秋的善心如同來自上帝的贈與，造福了許多根本不認識她的人。

瑞秋的媽媽在網站上表示，對於那些願意幫助瑞秋實現願望的人，她十分感恩。「謝謝你們在我承受喪女之痛的同時，給我一份難以言喻的安慰。我知道瑞秋現在一定滿臉微笑。」

On June 12th 2011, I'm turning 9. I found out that millions of people don't live to see their 5th birthday. And why? Because they didn't have access to clean, safe water so I'm celebrating my birthday like never before. I'm asking from everyone I know to donate to my campaign instead of gifts for my birthday. Every penny of the money raised will go directly to fund freshwater projects in developing nations. Even better, every dollar is "proved" when the projects are complete, and photos and GPS coordinates are posted using Google Earth. My goal is to raise $300 by my birthday, June 12, 2011.
